Detroit Tigers

The Detroit Tigers are one of Major League Baseball’s most historic franchises, having won four World Series titles and produced legends such as Ty Cobb and, more recently, Miguel Cabrera. Their home ballpark of Comerica Park has seen the team play in the American League Central Division ever since the year 2000. If you are wondering how to watch the Detroit Tigers game tonight, or throughout the whole season, read on…

What Channel is the Tigers Game on Tonight?

Most Detroit Tigers games are broadcast on FanDuel Sports Network Detroit, the team’s regional sports network, also covering the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Pistons. The games not featured on the team’s local network are those that are broadcast nationally, which will be featured on any of the following channels:

  • ESPN: Select nationally broadcast MLB games and Sunday Night Baseball
  • TBS: Tuesday Night MLB games throughout the regular season.
  • FOX: 20 Saturday late afternoon or evening games, and four Thursday night games
  • MLB Network: 26 MLB Network Showcase games

Please note, however, that the games shown on MLB Network will be subject to blackout restrictions if you are in the area, as these will also be carried by each team’s regional sport network.

How to Stream Tigers Games Online

For fans who prefer streaming, you have several options to consider. The simplest option for fans in the region is to subscribe directly to FanDuel Sports Network, via a monthly or annual subscription, which will give you access to all the Tigers’ games, apart from those broadcast nationally.

If you want the full array of games, then you will need the national broadcasting channels (ESPN, FOX, TBS), which can be found within several high-profile television streaming providers. The best options for Tigers fans will be to opt for Fubo or DirectTV Stream, as these feature FanDuel Sports Network Detroit alongside the national channels.

For fans outside of the Detroit area, or for those who want access to the entire MLB schedule, look no further than MLB.TV. This gives fans access to every single out-of-market MLB game, but blackout restrictions will occur for any in-market games. Thankfully, full replays are made available very quickly.

Other Streaming Options

If none of those sound like the best option for you, then you can also consider one of these other streaming platforms, which air select games throughout the MLB season, alongside a wide range of other sports and entertainment.

  • ESPN+: One out-of-market game per day throughout the regular season
  • Roku: MLB Sunday Leadoff - Broadcasting early Sunday afternoon games during the regular season
  • Fox Sports App: Stream any games shown on FOX, but requires a TV provider login.
  • TBS Sports App: Stream Tuesday night games on TBS.
  • Apple TV+: Stream Friday Night Baseball exclusive games

Home of the Tigers

Detroit bounced around the city playing in Boulevard Park, Bennett Park, and Burns Park before landing at the old Tiger Stadium. In 1999, the Tigers moved out and closer to the downtown city center to Comerica Park. The stadium was another of the “retro-classic” ballparks built in the 1990s and early 2000s. Comerica Park is named for the bank that was founded in Detroit but since moved to Dallas. The stadium holds 41,083 fans for Tigers games.

History of the Tigers

The Tigers have a history of success with an all-time winning percentage over .500. Detroit has won four World Series titles. The first came in 1935 and the most recent was in 1984. The other two were won in 1945 and 1968.

The Tigers have won seven division titles. Three came as a member of the AL East (1972, 1984, and 1987). The other four came as members of the AL Central (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014).

Detroit also claims 11 American League pennants: 1907, 1908, 1909, 1934, 1935, 1940, 1945, 1968, 1984, 2006, and 2012. The Tigers made the playoffs as a MLB wild card in 2006 and advanced to the World Series where they lost to St. Louis.

He debuted for Detroit in 1905 and by the time his career ended in the late 1920s, Ty Cobb was, and still is, considered by many the greatest baseball player of all-time. He still holds numerous MLB records to this day including highest career batting average (.367), most career batting titles (12), and many others. He was the youngest player to ever reach 4,000 hits and score 2,000 runs. Cobb won the Triple Crown in 1909 and the AL MVP in 1911. He played 22 seasons in Detroit.

Hank Greenberg was considered one of the greatest sluggers of his era. He was a five-time All-Star and led the AL in homers and RBIs four times each. Twice, he was the AL MVP winning in 1935 and 1940, the same years he led Detroit to World Series titles.
