Both Chelsea and Liverpool have had a good season so far and still remain in all tournaments. Chelsea, recent Club World Cup champions, are 3rd in the English Premier League and fight for the trophies in both the FA-Cup and the UEFA Champions League. Even though the league title seems distant with a short gap up to Manchester City and Sunday’s opponent, Liverpool, Chelsea still have a lot to play for this season and have already managed to bring home one trophy. Last time Chelsea won the English League Cup was in 2015 and a win on Sunday would bring their tally of League Cup trophies to 6.

Liverpool are along with Manchester City the most successful team in the history of the English League Cup with 8 titles each. However, they haven’t managed to win the tournament since back in 2012, then managed by the club legend Kenny Daglish.

Games between the two sides tend to be close affairs and both league games this season have ended with a draw. Liverpool had their final preparations for the EPL final on Wednesday night when they thrashed Leeds United by 6-0. Salah, Mane and the new signing, Luis Diaz all looked sharp and with only Firmino out Jürgen Klopp has plenty of options to choose from when he fields his team on Sunday.

For Chelsea, a lot depends on Ziyech and Kovacic who will do anything they can to be back in time for Sunday's encounter. The pair had to come off when Chelsea played Lille on Tuesday night in the UEFA Champions League and especially Kovacic will be a huge blow for Chelsea if he can’t make it.
